Old Colorado City

03 Sep 2024    Things to do    Emma Adamson

Back in 1859, a little town of El Dorado sprang up at the base of a mountain pass. It was later renamed Colorado City. People settled in Colorado City to farm, ranch, and support the miners.

By 1886, a railroad company made Colorado City its headquarters. This brought many jobs to the town. Well, in 1891 gold was discovered nearby and more people came up to Colorado City to spend money. Because other nearby towns didn't sell alcohol, Colorado City became known for its many bars.

Colorado city also, the people their constructed schools, a library, and churches. They wanted to make their town a better place.

In 1914, the selling of alcohol was stopped. This marked the end of the wild west days for Colorado City. In 1917, the town became part of Colorado Springs.
Old Colorado City, which is now an art district with many artists displaying their work. So many stores, and food places and little shops to shop at. People come from around the world to just walk around and explore the area
